Both Harold and Jimmy still keenly miss their dear wives who passed away some years ago, as do Jack P, and Jack F, who are both feeling the brunt of the loss of their beloveds in recent months. So plenty of time to talking things through and being heard is something that happens well at Nandeebie. We are on the lookout for new Nandeebie residents to join, particularly from the Independent Living Units. Ross Wiseman, 1 November 2011

What's going
on... Nandeebie... Ross and Tony are the Team Facilitators at Nandeebie Centre of Care, operated by Uniting Care Services. The Circle of Men Group is quite small at Nandeebie with only 4 residents attending. This means that the group which has been functioning as it is for the entire year, is an intimate one where bonds are quite strong. We have two Jacks, Jack P and Jack F, both of whom served in Kokoda in WW2. Jack F was a noted marksman with his rifle. He was also a noted tennis player and Birkdale club leader in earlier days, and was friends with some of the tennis greats such as Ken Fletcher. He is also a gardner of note – having his own private vegie garden outside his Nandeebie room. Jack P on the other hand, one of nature’s gentlemen, is a man of letters, in that he is a profound poet of sorts, with some of his items appearing in local newspapers. Also in the same team, is James (or Jimmy) who served in the RAAF, and was a pretty good chippy in his day. To complete the group we have Harold who actually lives in Nandeebie’s independent units, and has been a great friend of Jack F through the years, particularly through their church. Harold was brought up on the banks of the Brisbane River where his family owned a boat building business. The business has been well known in Brisbane, and still operates on the River bank. Harold was born in an 18 footer, and has many photographs of his family’s products. One of the former members of our circle, Richard, passed away a few months ago, and our group was represented at the funeral, for which the family were grateful. We pay our respect to dear Richard. Richard has not been our only loss. |
